Linear equations are first degree polynomials. These functions describe lines. They can take several different forms:
- a standard form, ax + by = c, where a, b, and c are integers,
- the slope intercept form, y = mx + b, where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept, and
- point-slope form, (y - y1) = m(x - x1), where m is the slope, and x1, y1 represent the coordinates of a point on the line.
Often we need to manipulate algebraically to put the equation of the line into its various forms.
