Slope is the ratio of the change in y-values to the change in x-values of any two points on a line.
In algebra, slope is usually represented by the letter m.
If we have two points on a line, (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), then
We can also write the slope formula in terms of the Greek letter delta (), which means "the difference." Sometimes we call the difference of y-values the "rise" and the difference of x-values the "run." So another way of expressing the slope formula is to say "rise over run." Slope also is referred to as "rate of change."
